The 3er seats five, and its trunk offers 17 cubic feet of space in most versions, with the option of a power trunk lid. Adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and a few others are optional, but auto emergency braking is standard. Disappointingly, a lot of the latest and greatest safety tech is optional in the new 3 Series, but there are some options worth having. Other new features in the 2023 3 Series include 5G capabilities, as well as a WiFi hotspot, wireless smartphone connectivity through Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a more advanced voice assistant. This does mean, however, that the physical AC controls are now gone, as controls in the screen have replaced them. This replaces the two separate screens on the 3 Series' dashboard, and the Curved Display also brings along the latest version of the iDrive infotainment system, iDrive 8. The biggest one is the introduction of the new BMW Curved Display, which originally made its debut on the iX electric SUV. The interior of the 3 Series also gets some pretty significant changes. Power goes to the wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission. While on the topic, every 3 Series gets standard RWD, and AWD is optional on every trim level. If you spec AWD, it can reach 60 mph in a rapid 4.1 seconds, while the RWD version does it in 4.4 seconds. The M340i uses a 3.0-liter turbocharged six-cylinder engine with 382 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. The 330e develops 288 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque, but the 0-60 time goes up a little bit to a still very respectable 5.6 seconds. The 330e uses the same turbocharged four-cylinder, but it also adds an electric motor and a small 11.1 kWh battery pack, which is larger than the pre-facelift model's 9 kWh. The base 330i uses a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine making 255 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque, which gives it a surprisingly brisk 0-60 time of just 5.3 seconds. The powertrain lineup on the 2023 3 Series stays pretty much the same. Although this segment of the market is shrinking, the 3 Series continues its battle in the compact luxury sedan segment, with the Audi A4, the underdog but still awesome Alfa Romeo Giulia, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the bargain Genesis G70, and the gearhead-friendly Lexus IS. The exterior appearance packages are also the same, being Sport and M Sport. The 2023 3 Series' powertrain lineup stays the same, including four-cylinder, six-cylinder, and plug-in hybrid power. In the back, the taillights are slightly updated, and there are also new rear bumper designs. The lower grille and decorative inserts on either side of the front bumper are also new. The daytime running lights appear inverted when compared to the pre-facelift. As well as slightly redesigned kidney grilles, there's a new set of headlights. The changes on the exterior are pretty extensive, but perhaps not as drastic as other models in BMW's lineup. It was one of the first BMW models to introduce some new design traits, that would eventually go on to appear in the other models. The current generation 3 Series, carrying the internal codename G20, debuted back in 2018 for the 2019 model year.
